At Home Dad (Live Action) Episode 1

by DumbOtaku on January 8, 2009

I won’t do an episode by episode of most things I review or talk about, but I watched this last night and though I would share some thoughts on the show.

First, I do like to watch a great many things and for sure JDrama is one of those things.  Problem is most JDrama that I have watched in the past that are about adults are very stiff and boring so I stick with the more slice-of-life at school shows.  However, I am not against watching the first couple of episodes to see if I can get into it.  So I started “At Home Dad”, and I must say I am liking it.

Basically, it is a show about questioning norms in society.  Normally the husband is the breadwinner and brings home the bacon, but this show is based around one guy doing it by choice and another is forced into it but hates the idea as he loses is pride.  I am sure there will be a change in how the guy acts and sees the world by the end.  I am usually not a fan of political statement shows like this one is, but I am going to try and look past it as it seems like it might be fun and they aren’t throwing politics in everywhere except in the theme of the show.

Here is the title screen:

First thing I noticed was a suburban type housing system.  I can honestly say I never ever thought Japan would have suburbs or at least suburb type housing.  I either picture houses in the country or houses in the middle of Tokyo.  I don’ t know why I guess that is all I seem to see in Anime

So now lets introduce the two key families, at least as far as I can tell with the first episode.

Family 1 this is the first family that already has a stay at home dad and the wife the bread winner.

Family 2 where the husband is the one resistant to staying at home and being the stay at home dad because of pride.

Not really sure if this is more of a woman’s show or not, bu there definitely is some eye-candy for the ladies.

Since I am interested in Japanese food I thought i’d throw in this shot because it looks interesting

And finally the conclusion of what happens when you have no idea what in the world you are doing, not exactly his best day.

Conclusion

I am definitely going to keep watching this at this point seems very light hearted and fun so is pretty cool.  I can’t wait to see some of what happens between some of the secondary characters too since they are going to cause some real problems I can tell.  I couldn’t really come up with any good screen captures of it but trust me some really shenanigans are going to happen.
