Game news Future skateboarding games to count on
Star of the late 90s, skateboarding has fallen into oblivion in recent years to make way for other sports disciplines with more media coverage. But for a few months now, extreme sport has resurfaced, whether in the media (skateboards made the show at the Olympics) and in video games. Now that Skater XL, Skate City and of course Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 are available, let’s take a look into the future and dwell on the next upcoming skate games.
The Ramp
Let’s start on a roll with The Ramp! The promising minimalist independent production entirely produced by Paul Schnepf is due out on August 3 on Steam. It invites you to discover four colorful playgrounds to honor the green skateboarding (skateboarding on a ramp or in swimming pools). Here, no fuss or unnecessary frills. The skate game defined as a “digital toy” by its developer has chosen to go to the essentials by highlighting the beauty of the show. In other words, no scores, missions or even figures to unlock in the program, but just pure and hard skateboarding.

OlliOlli World
After two successful episodes, the OlliOlli saga from independent studio roll7 returns with a third opus called OlliOlli World. The latter breaks with 2D and the usual artistic direction of the first chapters and takes you to the lands of Radland. A whole new environment with a cartoony design and where 3D exists. From now on, our budding skateboarder can play with the depth of the terrain to string together spectacular and extended combos. As a reminder, even if the title is more accessible than in the past, we imagine once again that the difficulty will increase as the player progresses.

Session: Skateboarding Sim Game
Session: Skateboarding Sim Game invites you to take to the streets of New York to perform magnificent figures while having total control of your board. Indeed, Like Skate, the popular Electronic Arts saga, the simulation from Creā-ture Studios offers you to use the sticks of your controller to perform dozens and dozens of different tricks. Already available in Early Access on Steam, the game will be released in its final version in summer 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S.

Skateboard 4
After more than ten years of absence, the Electronic Arts Skateboard license made a comeback during the EA Play Live in June 2020 to announce a fourth opus. Unfortunately, we will have to wait a long time to get our hands on this new component, soberly titled Skate. The title, a year after its announcement, remains very mysterious. For the moment, Full Circle, the developers of the game, have not revealed any image, release date or even target a game platform. However, to help us wait, the team shared a first July 22 behind the scenes look at the development.

SkateBIRD
On September 16, it will be the turn of the crazy skate game SkateBIRD to show off on PC and Microsoft consoles. The title included in the GamePass invites you to play as a young skateboarding bird who does not hesitate to do dozens and dozens of figures between the furniture of a house and Thrasher magazines to explode the scores. If you’re a big fan of the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater saga, you won’t be disappointed. The title of Glass Bottom Games indeed uses all the codes of the emblematic license of Activision.

Skate story
If there is one game that has made our mouths water for many months now, it is obviously Skate Story. Sam Eng’s mystical game puts you in command of a transparent silhouette wearing a magnificent pair of Vans to enjoy an extraordinary dreamlike journey. Indeed, the title puts aside the scoring part to focus fully on its contemplative aspect. The player will therefore be able to go through many levels at his own pace while enjoying the care taken in the tricks and their animations. Unfortunately, the latter still does not have an exit window.

Riders Republic
For the next two games to come, let’s forget about skateboards to make room for board games. The first therefore, is none other than Riders Republic, the future production of Ubisoft Annecy expected on October 28th. Just like Steep, from whom he is strongly inspired, Riders Republic benefits from a large playing area (several national parks in the United States are represented) and above all has a multitude of playable sports disciplines starting with skiing and snowboarding, going through downhill biking, paragliding and wingsuiting. Note also that the title benefits from a strong social dimension: twenty riders can meet on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and more than fifty on PC and next-gen consoles.

Shredders
Let’s end this list with one of the Microsoft exclusives expected for the end of the year on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series: Shredders. The open-world snowboarding game unveiled for the first time at the Xbox Games Showcase of the year 2020 offers you to perform magnificent tricks in varied and snowy environments. Here, your goal is to gain reputation and make a name for yourself by performing magnificent tricks, multiplying points and participating in as many competitions as possible. Good news: just like Riders Republic, the production of FoamPunch will allow you to meet other players during your little escapades.
