Game news Sol Cresta: the miraculous sequel to Terra Cresta by PlatinumGames shows us gameplay

It’s a 40-plus-year-old franchise that PlatinumGames is about to resurrect. Facetious, the development studio had led us to believe in a farce as we learned about it on April 1st each time. But four months after its last announcement, Sol Cresta proves, once again, that it does exist.

We therefore had to wait a few months before hearing any news from the Sol Cresta project again. So yesterday, during the PlayStation Indies event, the PlatinumGames studio and Sony gave us a new trailer that highlights the gameplay of the game.

Fruit of the collaboration of PlatinumGames and Hamster Corporation, Sol Cresta invites us to take control of three ships with several shooting formations in order to adopt the strategy most suited to the different levels of this vertical scrolling shoot’em up.

For the occasion, the creative director of the project, who is none other than Hideki Kamiya (Resident Evil 2, Okami, Bayonetta 1 and 2), spoke at length in an article from PlayStation Blog to evoke the genesis of Sol Cresta and the long journey strewn with pitfalls he had to face.

This confirms that Sol Cresta will close the Cresta series, forming a trilogy with the episodes Moon Cresta (1980) and Terra Cresta (1985). This idea of bringing a third installment to life came about three years ago when Kamiya brooded over her desire to experiment with other games, in addition to the action ones that are the studio’s hallmark.

It was during a discussion with Atsushi Inaba that the studio gave the project a boost. Kamiya first wanted to be sure that the game could offer a unique experience, which is why he opted for the three fighter vertical shooter that we now know.

The Cresta series was a ready-made basic material for Kamiya who wanted start from the games he loved to improve playability and characteristics. However, the rights to the original shutters, developed by Nichibutsu, were held by Hamster Corporation. But all’s well that ends well since during the meeting with the group’s president, Satoshi Hamada, the project was directly accepted.

Sol Cresta will therefore be released on PS4 in 2021, without further details for the moment, as well as on Switch and PC.
