0 A.D. support Linux, Windows, Mac
0 A.D. (pronounced “zero-ey-dee”) is a free, open-source historical Real Time Strategy (RTS) game being developed by Wildfire Games, a global group of volunteer game developers.
As the ruler of an ancient civilization, you must gather the resources required to raise a military force and dominate your enemies.
“0 A.D.” refers to a time period that never existed:
In the traditional calendar, one moves from 1 B.C. to 1 A.D., skipping zero.
This reflects the game’s historical fiction:
Who would have triumphed if all of the groups had been pitted against each other at their peak?
We want to depict some of the main civilizations from 500 B.C. to 500 A.D.
(This is why the midway is zero.)
That is a lofty goal, thus the first edition of 0 A.D. focuses on the last five centuries B.C.
More civilizations, as well as new gameplay elements, may be included in future expansion packs.
While creating 0 A.D., we placed a great emphasis on historical authenticity.
We base all of our units and structures on reconstructions of how the units and buildings may have looked in the ancient era.
We even give them names derived from the original languages, such as Greek and Latin.
However, it is important to remember that any game should be enjoyable to play, therefore in many situations, we prioritized playability above historical accuracy.
0 A.D. is entirely free to download and always will be.
There is no “freemium” model, no in-game advertising, and no catch.
This is our unequivocal promise.
0 A.D. support Linux, Windows, Mac
Although you may come across people selling physical copies of 0 A.D., keep in mind that you can always download 0 A.D. for free from the creators’ website.
Because we think that everyone should have access to excellent games and that everyone can benefit from making them, 0 A.D. is free software.
You are free to share and modify the game as long as you follow the GPL.
You can even use elements of the art and music in your own projects as long as you follow the CC BY-SA license.
The development of 0 A.D. began in 2001, first as a mod concept for Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings.
Pyrogenesis, a standalone game with its own engine, was released in 2003.
The game was published as free, open-source software in 2009-2010, and most of the coding was rebuilt.

Currently, 0 A.D. is in the alpha phase, which implies it is still in the early experimental phase.
The game is playable, and you may already download and try it, although certain features are still lacking.
When will 0 A.D. be available?
It is quite difficult to forecast.
Even once we’ve completed all of the features, we’ll want to perform comprehensive beta testing, which can take some time.
Dates of release will be announced at the proper time.
