Originally, the series was planned to launch this year.
One of the most anticipated adaptations of Hiroshi Takashige and Ryoji Minagawa’s landmark manga of the same name, Spriggan, has received a new teaser thanks to Netflix. It was in 2019 that Netflix made the announcement that it will be releasing a new series, with a release date of 2021 promised. Following production setbacks caused by the coronavirus epidemic, Spriggan is now scheduled to premiere in 2019.
The Spriggan manga series ran from 1989 to 1996, and the most recent adaptation was a 1998 film directed by Akira director Katsuhiro Otomo, which was overseen by Spriggan writer/director Katsuhiro Otomo. Although most anime fans in the West are unfamiliar with the source material, if you are a dedicated follower of the medium, there is a high possibility that you have seen the work of some of the people involved in the production of the new series. Attack on Titan’s Hiroshi Kobayashi (Kill la Kill) is directing the project, while Hiroshi Seko (Mob Psycho 100) is writing the script. David Productions, the company that brought you Jojo’s Bizare Adventure, is handling the animation chores for the program.
