Review

A truly unforgettable JRPG epic that, in some aspects, has not been surpassed by any other game in the genre’s history. No one will be able to resist the allure of the game’s unique characters and situations, as well as its non-linear narrative structure, deep combat system, and atmosphere of endless adventure.

He classic SaGa Frontier has all the feats you like and none of the bugs you do not love. From easy crashes to overwhelming value, this SaGa Frontier remake is loyal to both the original and fresh air! However, the game itself is still SaGa Frontier. If you do not enjoy highly obtuse, arcane and confusing systems, this game may very well cause you extreme frustration. But if you are willing to give a go to an old game but updated graphics and a better hand checklist for plot points? That’s your turn. The only problem with this game is probably the location – yes localisation, instead of translation, as some skills and items seem to be renamed by an executive, who has put random sentences on a dartboard and seen what has stagnated. The grammar and syntax are excellent, but their choice of words is positively disconcerting compared to the entire remaining SaGa series and the original SaGa Frontier.

SaGa Frontier is a frivolous and irreverent small JRPG that avoids great stories and philosophies and instead concentrates on a charming sequence of ridiculous juxtapositions, genuine humour, and playfulness. This is a well-created game and this is proved by the effective, challenging and entertaining combat system. That’s only because it’s not like most other JRPGs from Square Enix, because developers clearly wanted to deliver something that was against the JRPG genre’s expectations. SaGa Frontier was so successful, that it has become a “cult classic,” and although it never appeals to the mainstream, it is hopeful that through this remaster a new audience will be present.

The price tag of this remaster may seem somewhat high, but in view of the effort needed to overhaul this faulty classic into a great play experience, SaGa Frontier Remastered is appropriate for $24.99 on all platforms when the game is released. Any hesitation I had to recommend this game to all JRPG and SaGa fans washed away after spending time with it. Don’t miss out: give that one a chance to take in SaGa Frontier’s vast and strange world.

Saga Frontier Remastered has returned to HD and many new contents: it’s high time to revive the legend.

SaGa Frontier Remastered is a good piece of nostalgia from JRPG that is good for fans of the original classic.
