A former Oculus and EA Exec were engaged by the firm to oversee its game development efforts.
In the near future, Netflix can be a TV program, film and game streaming platform. Bloomberg reports that Mike Verdu, former Oculus and EA exec, has been hired by the business as vice-president for game development. Verdu was the VP on Facebook for Augmented and Virtual Reality games and content, where he worked with Oculus Rift, Quest and Go developers. He headed EA Mobile from 2017 to 2018 and also supervised the studios at Star Wars, including: Galaxy of Heroes, SimCity BuildIt, Plants vs. Zombi, and Sims Free Play.
The firm is supposed to expand its gaming staff in the next months so that it can start delivering streaming games in the next year. Netflix is not exactly unexperienced in the region and games based on famous series that have previously been produced. It published these titles, however, on smartphones and consoles – Bloomberg claims that the firm will not provide its future video games with a separate platform and would make them available in its own category alongside programs and films. In addition, the streaming behemoth has no intentions to charge an extra fee for game access, even though it is not obvious whether the increased material leads to a future price increase.
Netflix is searching for methods to develop and make sure it stays forward, especially in saturated regions, such as the US. The current response seems to be the adding of video games to its repertory. The information was originally revealed that the firm wanted to recruit a manager who was responsible for its growth into video games in May. Netflix apparently approached numerous senior execs in the business in terms of their position. A business spokesman informed The Information at the time:
“Our members enjoy our content’s diversity and quality. This is why we continuously extended our portfolio – from series to documentaries, films, original local languages and reality television. Members are also more involved in tales they adore – interactive programs such as Bandersnatch and You v. Wild, or games based on foreign stories, L Casa de Papel and All Boys. We are thus looking forward to doing more interactive entertainment.”
