On Thursday, the official website for the six-part Princess Principal: Crown Handler sequel film series released a trailer and a new key image for the second feature. Both confirm that the film will be released in 46 cinemas across Japan on September 23:
Sentai Filmworks has licensed the whole six-part film series, and the first film’s plot is as follows:
Following the attempted assassination of the Queen, manhunts for spies become commonplace throughout the Kingdom. As a result, Control, the Commonwealth’s covert operations department, suspects the presence of a double agent among the Kingdom’s royal family. Control sends out espionage ring “Team White Pigeon” to uncover the truth. But danger lurks around every turn, and when you don’t sure who you can trust, Ange and the rest of Team White Pigeon’s job as spies has never been more dangerous.
The first film was released on February 11th. The film was initially scheduled to be released in April 2020, however the film’s production committee delayed its release, citing government measures to limit the spread of the new coronavirus illness (COVID-19), as well as viewers’ health and safety.
On September 28, the original film’s Blu-ray Disc release in Japan will contain a new six-minute OVA titled “Busy Easy Money.” Dorothy and Chise have summoned the members of Team White Pidgeon to the natural history room in the plot of the OVA, because Dorothy evidently has something she wants to share.
Masaki Tachibana (Barakamon,.hack/Quantum) will return to helm the films at Actas. Instead of Ichiro Okouchi from the television anime, Noboru Kimura (Gundam Build Divers, Solty Rei) is supervising and authoring the screenplays (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress).
Kouhaku Kuroboshi (Kino’s Journey, Sky Girls) is still credited with the original character designs, which were modified for animation by Yukie Akiya (Celestial Method, Code:Breaker). Kimitake Nishio (Moetan, ToHeart2), on the other hand, is also creating characters for the movie and is acknowledged as the only chief animation director in the absence of Akiya. Yuki Kajiura (Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero) returns to write music alongside sound director Yoshikazu Iwanami.
